MY APPROACH
Specialising in Individual Counselling, Addiction & Trauma
This work is relational. It's not about fixing or analysing from a distance - it's about what's alive in the room: the space between us, the patterns that show up in real time, and how we meet them together.
My approach draws on trauma-informed, attachment-based and relational work, always adapting to what's needed in the moment. The relationship comes first - the rest flows from there.
Most of the people I see are at war with themselves in some way. A part that wants to reach out and a part that pulls back. A part that pushes hard and a part that's exhausted. A part that reaches for the drink, the phone, the distance, whenever something gets too close.
Internal Family Systems is the model I lean on most for this. None of those parts is bad, and none of them is the whole of who you are. Each one took on a job a long time ago, usually to protect you from something that hurt. But that job doesn't always fit who you are now.
So we don't try to get rid of the anxious part, or the angry one, or the part that goes quiet under pressure. We get curious. What's it protecting? That's what makes change hold instead of snapping back, and there's more on how it plays out session to session on the parts work page.
Some things don't respond to just talking about them. The memory intrudes whether you invite it or not, the reaction fires before you've had a chance to think it through, and your body hasn't caught up to the fact that you're safe now.
That's where EMDR comes in. I'm EMDR trained and use it alongside the rest of this work, not instead of it. It's recommended for PTSD by the World Health Organization and in Australia's national guidelines. It isn't right for everyone, so we'd talk first about whether it fits and what your nervous system can actually handle before we go anywhere near the hard material. If it sounds like it might, there's more detail here. I also draw on DBT, IPT and polyvagal-informed practice, depending on what's in front of us.
We don't just stay in the present. We look at the patterns and experiences that shaped you and how they continue to echo through your life now.
This work isn't about becoming someone else. It's about slowly coming back to who you are underneath everything you've had to carry.
We meet what shows up and we move at your pace, one step at a time.
Individual Counselling
A one-to-one space to work through what's beneath the surface: the patterns, the pain, and what's possible from here.
We might work with trauma, addiction, burnout, or emotional overwhelm. Sometimes it's anxiety or low mood, other times it's grief, a life transition, identity, or a search for meaning. Relationship and attachment patterns come up constantly too, and we work with them here.
Whatever's present, we begin there. No pressure to have the right words.
