If you’re new to counselling or just curious about how it works, here are a few common questions.
How do I know if counselling is right for me - and what happens in the first session?

You don’t need a referral, diagnosis, or clear goal to begin. If you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure, that’s often reason enough to start. In our first session, we’ll talk about what’s brought you here and what support might look like - at your pace.

How often should I book sessions?

Most people start with weekly or fortnightly sessions. We’ll check in together and find a rhythm that feels right for you.

What's the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?

Both are evidence-based therapeutic professions. The key differences are training pathways and Medicare eligibility. Psychologists can offer Medicare-rebated sessions under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, but at the Australian Psychological Society's recommended rate you're still paying around $219 out of pocket per session after the rebate. Counsellors work on a private pay basis: no referral, no waitlist, no session cap. Sessions with Wade are $150.

If cost is a barrier, reach out there are a small number of sliding scale places available.

Can I book a session for someone else?

If you’re supporting someone who’s thinking about counselling, you’re welcome to get in touch. That said, the person attending needs to feel ready and willing to engage in the process themselves.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. What you share in sessions stays private, with a few legal exceptions around safety or serious risk - which we’ll talk through together at the beginning so you know what to expect.

ready to take the next step?

You can book online or get in touch if you have questions - I’m here when you’re ready.
